LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette Jeff High School is finally getting a new weight room.

Looking at the old one, it's long overdue for renovations.

It will be called the Scheumann Family Sports Performance Center after the the John Scheumann family who donated around $250,000.

The rest of the money came from fundraising.

It will be four times bigger than the old weight room and be built where the old natatorium is.

Jeff's athletic director said getting this new gift gives the Bronchos a competitive edge.

"It's a $430,000 project so to have that on top of the new natatorium on top of some of the other facilities we are building; the one thing Lafayette Jeff has is tremendous facilities," said Joe Hernandez.

The facility will include 14 squat racks, 14 platforms, six glute-hamstring machines, six multi-purpose performance stations, two dumbbell stations, a sports performance nutrition fueling station and also includes a 1200 square-foot all-purpose turf training area. Sorinex Exercise Equipment, Inc. was awarded the project.

Sorinex is the company that equipped Purdue’s new weight room.

It will open late summer 2020.

Plans to fill and level the current pool will take place this spring, as part of the ongoing renovation project at Lafayette Jeff with installation of flooring and equipment for the new weight room to take place during the summer of 2020.

The Scheumann Family Sports Performance Center will open late summer 2020.
