CITADEL WEIGHT ROOM PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION

Renovation Photos Through the Years

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The weight room in Seignious Hall has gone through many changes throughout the years. Now, thanks to fundraising efforts from The Citadel Brigadier Foundation and assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning Donnell Boucher, the Dawg Pound has been equipped with some of the top equipment in the industry.

The facility serves all sports, over 350 cadet-athletes, and serves as the epicenter of the athletic department.

The $370,000 "Dawg Pound" renovation was kick-started by a generous $75,000 donation from an anonymous donor. Recognizing the impact of this project to enhance the experience of all cadet-athletes, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation Board approved an additional $250,000 commitment. The final effort came through a fundraising campaign by TCBF and Coach Boucher targeted at young alumni and close friends of The Citadel. That effort concluded with 175 donors committing the final $45,000 towards the project.

"This project could not have happened without our alumni. Everyone got serious when it became a possibility," said Boucher. "We have always been fortunate to have strong support from our fan base. It was nice to see so many young alumni involved. Most of these people trained under me over the past 12 years and have plenty of other priorities in their young lives. I continue to be inspired by their support. Our alumni make this job special for me.

"We were landlocked with our current location and our physical plant did an outstanding job in responding to unexpected mini-projects that occurred and needed immediate attention to keep the timeline on schedule."

The full facility renovation included paint and décor, equipment, flooring, performance technology, and office and storage space for a staff of six. The facility now showcases our partnership with Adidas, as well as industry leading performance brands in Sorinex, PLAE, Iron Grip and Intek.

"I would like to thank Tommy Young and the Young Office for their amazing work throughout this project," said Boucher. "Tommy is a huge supporter of the school and has done many projects around campus. With his work, our offices now serve as functional work stations that reflect our standards when alumni, recruits and their families visit and learn about our program."

The upgrades are evident as soon as you reach the second floor with a new turf surface featuring the institutional logo. The surface was installed to serve as a functional space for athlete recovery.

Once inside the weight room, you are greeted with a 20-yard turf surface for training. The turf surface, along with new flooring in the coaches area was installed by PLAE.

The center of the weight room features all new racks from Sorinex. The racks are customized for The Citadel and have features that enhance the training put together by the strength and conditioning staff.

One of the biggest additions is the performance technology. These two items are rare and immensely valuable to an FCS school. The Tendo units and Laser Timing System are widely popular around the globe at the highest level of sports. Both of them enables objective measures related to both performance increase and player safety and health.

The final piece to this phase is the installation of graphics to showcase the athletic department and athletes who have put in the work in the Dawg Pound.
